My first two stints post qualifying as a CA were to do financial modeling and operational performance monitoring for loss making entities in the companies that I worked for. Life was quite hectic as my work was always under the scanner, there were reviews by top brass scheduled and multiple scenarios — base, pessimistic, optimistic, with asset sale, without asset sale..

I was looking after the cash guzzlers and the entities that would potentially breach debt covenants

Every bps of margins mattered and thus cost workings were more granular

Discussions were about Loss After Tax bring lower than Loss Before Tax, because of Deferred Tax 😊

I was often envious of my fellow colleagues who were looking after the profitable parts within the entity — with 30% to 70% EBITDA and thus their life was relatively more sorted — just one base case

And they drew the same salary 😢

But in retrospect , I think that those stints really were a blessing in disguise — they helped me stretch the vistas of my imagination, my ability to handles complexity and stress ; something which helps now — thus, if i added the experience dimension, my salary was infact higher than my colleagues 😊
